Expanding Cellular Coverage Across the University of Miami

Boosting on-campus mobile connectivity through continued DAS expansion.

With mobile connectivity increasingly essential to patient care, teaching, and research, the University of Miami Information Technology & Systems (ITS) team is continuing to strengthen cellular coverage across our campuses. Building on our ongoing investments in network and wireless infrastructure, we're expanding our Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to deliver stronger, more consistent service in high-traffic and hard-to-reach areas.

What Is the DAS Network?

A Distributed Antenna System (DAS) improves cellular service by placing a network of small antennas throughout buildings and structures to capture, amplify, and distribute mobile signals. The result is better call quality, faster data speeds, and more reliable coverage in areas where signals are often weakest—such as garages, clinical environments, and interior spaces.

Expanded Coverage: CRB Parking Garage

Most recently, DAS coverage has been expanded to include the Don Soffer Clinical Research Center (CRB) parking garage on the medical campus. This enhancement improves cellular connectivity for faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors traveling to and from the area—supporting safer, more dependable communication throughout the campus experience.

Benefits of This Expansion

  • Clearer calls and stronger mobile data performance
  • More reliable coverage in parking areas and building transition zones
  • Improved communications support during emergencies

As our campuses grow and mobile technology becomes even more central to how we work and deliver care, expanding and modernizing cellular infrastructure remains a key priority. ITS is committed to supporting today's needs while building the foundation for tomorrow's growth.

Active Deployed DAS Locations

The DAS network is already active in several locations across the University of Miami Health System and Coral Gables campus, including remote sites, providing improved cellular service where it is needed most.
