Please be advised that the campus access control application, CS Gold, at the Coral Gables and Marine campuses will undergo a software upgrade on Saturday, May 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 'Cane Card access to all buildings, all student housing, and all card readers across campus will remain operational while the upgrade is taking place.

For those on campus during this time, we wanted to make you aware that the following services will be unavailable:

  • Access to student housing rooms via the MobileID application (students will need to use their 'Cane Card instead)
  • Access to 'Cane Express, guest funds, dining dollars, and mobile readers at Vicky Café, Pura Vida, and Subway (students will need to use credit cards or cash during the upgrade)
  • Printing of new 'Cane Cards

As part of the University of Miami's initiative to continually improve wireless connectivity, UM Information Technology (UMIT) will be updating the SecureCanes wireless and UM wired networks connection certificate. The update will take place in a phased approach:

  • Marine campus: Friday, May 28 at 8 p.m.
  • Coral Gables campus: Saturday, May 29 at 8 p.m.
  • Medical campus and Lennar: Sunday, May 30 at 8 p.m.

After the update, you may receive a prompt on your device(s) to connect or cancel the new certificate when you connect to the SecureCanes wireless and/or the UM wired network. Please review the wireless/wired documentation for accepting the new network certificate.

Please be advised that the campus access control application, CS Gold, at the Coral Gables and RSMAS campuses will undergo a software upgrade starting Monday, Dec. 14 at 6 a.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. 'Cane Card access to all buildings, all student housing, and all card readers across campus will remain operational while the upgrade is taking place.

For those on campus during this time, we wanted to make you aware that the following services will be unavailable:

  • Access to student housing rooms via the MobileID application (students will need to use their 'Cane Card instead)

Please be advised that UMIT will be upgrading the eduroam network on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 6 p.m. There is no expected downtime for the eduroam network.

After the upgrade, if you are off-campus and using the eduroam network, you may receive a prompt to accept a new authentication certificate. (You will only be asked to accept this authentication prompt once per device.) Click here to see what the new prompt will look like.

You will also be able to test your eduroam connection while on University of Miami's Coral Gables and RSMAS campuses. The eduroam instructional guide also provides information on how to prevent your device from automatically connecting to the eduroam network while at the University of Miami. (Note: While on campus, UM students are strongly encouraged to use CaneNet Wireless, while UM faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to use SecureCanes. Both of these networks provide encryption for wireless communications, making it safer to use wireless devices.)

If you are currently using Outlook on the Web (OWA)'s text message notifications feature for University of Miami email, please be advised that Microsoft is retiring this feature in OWA on September 30, 2020; however, notifications are available via the Outlook mobile phone app (on Android and iOS).

After this date, text message notifications will stop automatically and you will no longer be able to create or edit text message notifications. Informational Alert Zoom Meetings will Require Passcode or Waiting Room as of September 27, 2020

As you may know, Zoom recently released Zoom 5.0, which provides additional security and privacy for Zoom meetings. In addition to this update, Zoom is also modifying their default security settings. As of September 27, if you do not have a passcode on an existing Zoom meeting, a waiting room will be enabled by default. Zoom meetings created after this date will require either a passcode or a waiting room. These changes will further secure Zoom video conferences by preventing unwanted participants from joining your meetings.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Passcodes are randomly generated, but can be customized by the host.
  • If you select the passcode option, all attendees, either joining via their computer or by phone, will be required to access the meeting with the passcode (e.g., through the passcode embedded in the Zoom meeting link or by manually entering the passcode via phone or web).
  • If you add passcodes to an existing meeting, calendar invites will need to be sent again to include the passcode.

As of July 20, when initiating a VPN connection, you may see a pop-up alert on your computer that requests to update your current desktop VPN client to the newest version. Follow the desktop VPN client prompts to complete the update. Please keep in mind that you are not required to update your desktop VPN client at this time, and you can continue to use the current VPN version.

Please be advised that the University of Miami's virtual private network (VPN), Pulse Secure, is currently experiencing intermittent system lagging issues. Work is underway to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. 

Important: VPN should only be used by system administrators or for remote access to University on-premise systems/servers. VPN is no longer required for off-campus access to University enterprise systems, including but not limited to: Workday; CaneLink; Microsoft Office 365/Email/Teams; Epic/UChart; Blackboard; Adobe Creative Cloud; cloud storage like Box, OneDrive, and Google Drive; and Zoom. If you are using VPN, please ensure that you aren't using high-bandwidth tools, including video-streaming services like YouTube or Zoom, while connected.

Please be advised that UM wireless networks at the Coral Gables campus will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Thursday, January 3 from 5:30-11 p.m. and Friday, January 4 from 5:30-11 p.m. During this time, you may experience intermittent service disruptions when connecting to wireless networks on this campus.
