Faculty: Changes to IT Services Access After Separation or Retirement

Separated Faculty

If your primary role at the University is separated faculty, please be advised that your University of Miami CaneID will be disabled 180 days (6 months) after your separation.

When your CaneID is disabled, access to the following services will expire:

  • Your UM email account (name@miami.edu), via email.miami.edu and/or Outlook.
  • CaneLink (canelink.miami.edu), for actions like viewing academic history.
  • Office 365 (O365) tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneDrive. If you'd like to continue to use these tools, the following options are available to you:

    • Purchase O365 Email and Tools for Download/Desktop Use
      To purchase O365 tools for personal use, please visit: products.office.com.
    • Create a Free Outlook.com Email and Use O365 Tools Online
      Visit outlook.live.com to create a free Outlook.com email account. With your free account, you get access to the online version of O365 tools.
Important: Any files you would like to keep from OneDrive must be exported within 180 days (6 months) of separation.

  • Cloud storage and collaboration solutions, including Google Drive and Box. To purchase any of these solutions for personal use, we've listed a few links below to help you get started:
    (Note: If you decide to use one of these solutions for personal use, it is suggested to sign up with a non-UM email address, as you may not be able to register with your UM email address since it is already being used.)

Important: Any files you would like to keep from Google Drive and/or Box must be exported within 60 days (2 months) of separation.

Retired Faculty

If your primary role at the University is retired non-Emeritus faculty, please be advised that your University of Miami CaneID will be disabled 365 days (1 year) after your retirement. Note: If you are on track and confirmed for Emeritus status, your CaneID will remain active as long as you log in at least once every 18 months (1.5 years).

When your CaneID is disabled, access to the following services will expire:
