Students – Changes to Your IT Services Access After Graduation

Before you head off on your next adventure, we wanted to share some information about your access to IT services after you leave the University of Miami.

After graduation, you will keep access to:

  • Your email address! As an alum, your UM email account ( will remain active as long as you log in at least once a year. If you'd like to have your emails automatically forwarded to another email address, remember to keep your account active by logging in at at least once per year¹.
  • CaneLink: your CaneLink account will stay active for actions like viewing your academic history or requesting transcripts, as long as you log in at least once per year.

However, access to the following services will expire 60 days after you graduate:

  • Cloud storage and collaboration solutions, including Google Drive, Box, and Adobe Creative Cloud. To purchase any of these solutions for personal use, we've listed a few links below to help you get started²:

Important: Please export any files you would like to keep from Google Drive, Box, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud within 60 days (2 months) of your graduation date.

In addition, access to the following services will expire 180 days after you graduate:

  • Office 365 (O365) tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneDrive³. If you'd like to continue to use these tools, the following options are available to you:

    • Purchase O365 Email and Tools for Download/Desktop Use
      To purchase O365 tools for personal use, please visit:

    • Create a Free Email and Use O365 Tools Online
      Visit to create a free email account. With your free account, you get access to the online version of O365 tools.
Important: Please export any files you would like to keep from OneDrive within 180 days (6 months) of your graduation date.

Access to other enterprise software—including Qualtrics—will be discontinued upon graduation.

¹ If you do not plan to continue using your UM email account and would like to keep a copy of your emails, please feel free to export your emails (e.g., by forwarding messages to your personal email account).

² If you decide to use one of these three cloud-storage and collaboration solutions for personal use, you may not be able to register with your UM email address, due to your UM account already being associated with these services' enterprise accounts.
