Changes to Email Links in Outlook for Windows Opening in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft has implemented a new feature in Outlook for Windows computers, where email links now open in Microsoft Edge instead of your default web browser. We understand that this adjustment may impact your workflow, and we want to provide instructions on how to manage your preferred options in Outlook.

If you prefer to open email links in your default web browser instead of Microsoft Edge, you can adjust the setting within Outlook by following the steps below:

  • 1. Open the Microsoft Outlook app on your computer (a).

    (a)

  • 2. In the top-left corner of the Outlook window, click on the "File" tab (b).

    (b)

  • 3. In the File menu, select "Options" from the left-hand side panel (c).

  • 4. In the Outlook Options window, click on "Advanced" in the left-hand side panel.

  • 5. Scroll down until you find the File and Browser Preferences section.

  • 6. To open email links in your default web browser, select the option that says, "Open hyperlinks from Outlook in: Default Browser" (d).

  • 7. Click "OK" to save the changes you have made.

    (c)    (d)

By following the above steps, Outlook will now use your default web browser, such as Chrome or Firefox, to open email links, providing you with a consistent browsing experience.
