Network Infrastructure

The Network Infrastructure unit is responsible for all network architecture, audio/video conferencing, network engineering, and telecommunications. The unit manages, installs, and repairs outside plant infrastructure and backbone cabling, including low-voltage design and engineering for the University’s new building construction.

Other responsibilities include installation and maintenance of voice, data, and wireless networks, “environmentals” for Telecommunication systems, including air-conditioning systems, electrical circuits, as well as bonding, grounding, Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS), generators and environmental temperature sensing devices. This unit also provides an enterprise videoconferencing infrastructure that enhances real-time communication for students, staff, and faculty within the University. Departmental staff members perform telephone surveys and advise on appropriate equipment, costs, and location relating to new and/or existing installations, and work closely with key members of other staff members to establish services as needed.

The Network Infrastructure unit manages network connectivity to the Internet, Internet2, and the high-speed inter-campus wide area network (HWAN), provides engineering support for the legacy TDM phone systems and Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony systems at the University, and supports and monitors wired and wireless (public and private) network connectivity for patients, students, faculty and staff to support research, education and clinical needs 24 hours a day.
