Enterprise Application Services (EAS)

The EAS unit administers, maintains, develops, monitors, and oversees applications on behalf of the University community. Two teams are tasked with specific application areas in support of the University mission.

This unit is responsible for:

  • Enterprise Content Management (ECM) is the team that supports and enhances the enterprise use of content, including documents and images. This use includes the collection, scanning, storing, sharing, indexing and archiving of content.  Valuable workflows that mirror the clinical, academic and business processes are created and refined. Content is made available to share among many applications.  ECM also works closely with EPIC and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) teams to integrate functionality to provide a seamless and enabling experience. Hyland’s OnBase is the cloud-based ECM application used throughout the enterprise. Numerous legacy applications have been decommissioned once their content was migrated to OnBase. Report Distribution System (RDS), a legacy application supporting the distribution and management of administrative reports, is in the process of being decommissioned. The RDS content is being moved to OnBase.

  • Third Party Applications is the team managing enterprise-wide third-party software in support of system owners outside of UMIT. Working closely with system owners, this group manages new installations, upgrading, patching and ongoing support for applications – providing a liaison between UMIT and the system owners, and between the University and the vendors on technical issues. Some of the applications are as follows: identity card management, point of sale systems, security door access management, MEDICAT student health system, Studio Abroad study abroad management application, Advancement support, student housing and meal plans, space management, student payment processing and KRONOS timekeeping system.

  • The Applications Development team builds and supports custom applications. These applications extend the functionality of our ERP solutions and are tailored to the needs of the University using the Salesforce platform. This team assists the ERP teams by building technical solutions and providing support when needed. This team also supports the myUM Liferay portal.

  • The Customer Relationship Management (CRM) team uses the Salesforce platform, which allows UM admissions and recruitment offices to reach out to prospective applicants and build relationships with them. This platform extends communication to prospective applicants using social, mobile, and cloud technologies to keep them engaged with the University. There are plans to extend services to other University populations.

  • The Integration team builds integrations using the Dell Boomi platform. This team manages the exchange of data between UM, vendors, and university systems. Data transformations are often needed between source and target systems. Real-time and batch data transfers are supported by this team.

EAS is responsible to position each application to optimize its functionality, durability, economy, availability, and efficiency. The University has embraced a cloud first strategy for the deployment of applications. As cloud-based alternatives become more viable and available, applications are being relocated from on-premises servers to the cloud where EAS staff are still maintaining responsibilities for administration, monitoring, and support.
