Microsoft Windows

Description

As of March 2016, the most recent version of Windows for personal computers, tablets, and smartphones is Windows 10. Windows 10 is now supported at the Coral Gables and RSMAS campuses. (UMIT is currently working to evaluate compatibility of the Windows 10 software with the Medical campus’s applications.)

Note: As you may know, Microsoft has announced that Windows 7 will no longer be supported after January 14, 2020. After this date, Windows machines will no longer receive Microsoft patches to ensure that they are properly secured, which can result in hackers taking over your machine or compromising your personal information. Please review our frequently asked questions for more information and next steps.

Restrictions

• Students: For personal non commercial use. Must be currently enrolled, for credit, and degree seeking.

Licensing

• Students: This product is part of the University's Microsoft Campus Agreement Student Option. The Student Option allows eligible UM students to use one copy of this product.
• Faculty & Staff: As part of the University's Microsoft Campus Agreement, Faculty and Staff can purchase Microsoft Window at a greatly reduced price.
• University Departments: As of February 2016, all Windows-enabled computers purchased at the Coral Gables and RSMAS campuses will be pre-installed with Windows 10. This includes computers purchased through the Computer Lifecycle Management Program. UMIT technicians will install Windows 10 if there is a need to reformat and/or replace hard drives on an existing computer. Upon request, UMIT technicians will install Windows 10 for individuals that require the operating system for business purposes. These requests can be made by contacting the UMIT Service Desk at your respective campus.

Costs

• Students and University Owned Computers: There is no cost to use this software.
• Faculty and Staff Personal Use: Can be purchased at a greatly reduced price.
