Graduating students have until July 31 of their graduating year to receive support on my upgrade process through the University of Miami's CaneNet Connection.

The following is a list of frequently asked questions regarding Microsoft Software Products available to University of Miami Alumni who graduated in December 2006 or later. Please direct any other questions to software@miami.edu

 

I am an alumnus but am I eligible?
The university began participation in the MS Campus Agreement student option in the Fall of 2006. At this time, the agreement only applies to students who graduated beginning in the Fall of 2006 (i.e., December 2006) or later.

Do I own this software?
You will receive ownership of the software when your agree to the terms your Student Confirmation document.  To do this without installing any new software, please click here. If you would like to upgrade your software, you can download now. You will be required to complete the Student Confirmation document before the download can be completed.

How long do I have to download the software?
You will be able to download the software until the product has reached the end of its lifecycle with Microsoft.  Lifecycle information can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx.  However, please remember that you can only receive technical support from the University’s CaneConnection until July 31 of your graduating year.

What is a license?
A license is your legal permission to install and use the software.  In order to have legal ownership of your software, you must agree to the terms of the Student Confirmation document.

What software is covered under the Campus Agreement Student Option?

The most recent versions of the following software are covered under the agreement for eligible alumni for all schools and colleges:

  • Office for Windows

  • Office for Mac

  • Windows Operating System Upgrades

Students graduating from the College of Engineering are also entitled to the following software:

  • Visio Professional

  • Project Professional

What version of the Campus Agreement software am I entitled to?

You are entitled to the current version release at the time of your graduation.

What are the most recent releases of the software?

Office 2010 for Windows, Office 2008 for Mac, and Windows 7 Enterprise/Ultimate Upgrade.

Can I obtain a physical set of disks if I do not want to download the software?

Yes. Physical sets of media are currently available for purchase at a cost of $10.00, plus 7% sales tax at the Technology Product Center.

Where is the Technology Product Center located?

The TPC is located on the Coral Gables campus, in the Ungar Computer Center, Room 103.

Can I have the disks shipped to me?

Yes. However, all disks are shipped at your expense. You will be responsible for contacting the shipper of your choice and arranging a pickup. The university is not responsible for loss or damage in shipping.

 

Am I able to continue to use this software after I graduate?

Yes, as part of the University's agreement with Microsoft©, all graduating students are entitled to perpetual use rights for the software covered under the agreement.

 
How many machines can I install the software on?
You are permitted to install the software on one desktop computer and one personally owned notebook computer.
