Student Technology Help Desk Policies and Procedures

  • The Student Technology Help Desk services are exclusively for currently enrolled students of the University of Miami.
  • In order for services to be performed the student must present a Cane Card and agree to and sign the Service Waiver.
  • In order for service to be performed on a system the student must provide the following:
    • AC Adapter
    • CD/DVD Rom Drive
    • All necessary cables and system CD's
  • If the service being performed by the Student Technology Help Desk is the configuration of the WirelessCanes and /or CaneNet services the owner of the system must remain with the system at all times.
  • The Student Technology Help Desk can only perform advanced services on PCs with Windows 7, Vista or XP currently installed on the system.
  • The Student Technology Help Desk can only perform hardware support on Dell PCs that are currently under warranty.
  • If the service being performed by the Student Technology Help Desk is an extended service such as virus/spyware scans, OS reinstallations, or data backup/restore. The owner of the system will be required to drop the system off in order for it to be serviced.
  • In order for a computer that has been dropped off for extended services to be retrieved the owner of the computer must bring a picture ID to verify their identity. Accepted forms of identification are:
    • Canecard
    • State issued drivers license or ID card
    • Government issued ID or Passport
